Vanessa and I were shopping for our groceries yesterday and she said something to me that made me have a sort of mini-revalation. We w ere trying to think of ways to save money on our graceries, as our weekly bill for groceries is somewhere upwards of $150. Now to some degree this is to be expected as we are both rather picky eaters, but on the w hole we could not f igure out why our groceries were always costing so much! We were meandering down the boxed meal isle and "discussing", in our usual manner, whether to get rissotto, uncle bens microwave rice, or some type of pasta. All of a sudden Vanessa recommended we buy some containers and buy a bag of brown rice. "A bloody bag?", I thought to myself . I then remembered that we have a double decker steamer from Black and Decker! It can steam vegetables and rice at the same time! To top that it even has a bin for herbs and spices so that the vegetables are infused with f lavor during the steaming process. For your information we have the following steamer:

concentrate. Brilliant!
Both of these ideas immediately resulted in us saving a bit of green. Then Vanessa blew my mind. She mentioned that in addition to saving us money, we were
decreasing the amount of post-consumer waste that leaves our household. With this in mind w e have set out to discover what other ways w e might save moneywhile becoming more friendly to our environment. Stay tuned...
